Touch MacBook is coming: Apple won’t wait for the M7 chip and is betting on the M5
01.07.26
Apple is actively working on a MacBook with a touch screen. According to recent data, the company decided not to delay the release of the device while waiting for M7 chipsets, choosing already existing and powerful solutions of the M5 series for the debut model.
When will the MacBook with touch display come out
According to preliminary information, the official announcement of the long-awaited device is expected in late 2026 or early 2027. At the same time, Apple intends to use the capabilities of the M5 architecture, which has already shown its performance in tests. The introduction of more advanced M7 chips, the release of which is planned for the beginning of 2027 (and the Pro and Max versions – later), is planned already after the start of sales of the first sensor line.
Technical features and design of the novelty
The integration of the touch interface will cause significant changes in the laptop architecture:
- Transition to high-quality OLED displays.
- Deep redesign of the body design.
- Adaptation of user interface elements familiar to iPhone users, including Dynamic Island.
It is possible that Apple will separate this device into a separate premium series, releasing it under the name MacBook Ultra.
Should we expect changes in chip strategy?
Even if Apple decides to skip the generation of M6 Pro and Max chips, it will not affect the release schedule of the first touchscreen MacBook. The company is focused on ensuring the availability of powerful hardware for new device formats, so the early use of the M5 architecture seems to be the most justified and strategically correct step.
